Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a disorder where breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. It results from repetitive collapse of the upper airway due to loss of muscle tone. Some of the symptoms include excessive daytime sleepiness, occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation, restless sleep and morning headaches. Loud and chronic snoring is often one of the most common signs of OSA.
Our dentists can help treat mild to moderate cases of OSA with the use of a Mandibular advancement splint (MAS). This is like a night-guard for sleep where it helps support the bottom jaw forward, preventing the tongue from falling backwards and obstructing the airway.
